Send your school / district board.
Dear [School/District],
I am seeking clarification on how the school has established responsibility and authority for any AI systems that interact directly with students.
Could you please confirm:
Are any generative, conversational AI systems technically accessible (whether approved or not)to students on school-issued devices or school-issued accounts? Please list all.
For those systems, what institutional authority operates over outputs at the point where content is generated, (not before and after delivery)? For instance, how do you control that school compliant inputs will result in school compliant outputs.)
For outputs delivered to students during normal use, which entity is responsible (school, vendor, or other), and is that responsibility formally defined?
Has the district’s insurer reviewed or confirmed coverage for student-facing use of these systems? Have you specifically asked them about ISO exclusions for Gen AI with CG 40 47 and CG 40 48
Are school-issued devices and the associated digital platforms required for participation in standard instruction, or are academically equivalent non-digital alternatives available to students without academic penalty? If so, please describe how this option is communicated with parents?
Thank you,
Keep a copy of all communications. Write to your school / district board. Feel free to refer them to this website and the Institutional Accountability Framework as needed.
If they write you back with answers about “Supervision” or “AUP” (Acceptable Use Policies), please review information in the IAF or here.
